In the month of September, high school PE classes and the community showed support to Childhood cancer by participating in The Million Mile, an organization which was started after young Alex, had a goal to raise $1 million dollars toward cancer research as a lemonade stand. Our goal was to walk, run, or cycle as many miles as possible during this month and we completed 1,608 as a program during the school day.
There was a community winner, male winner and female winner initially but we awarded t-shirts to all students in high school PE who tracked more than 100 miles or close to it. Excited to do this again next year.
We also raised $670 dollars toward cancer research!
Community winner: Breana L Olson
More than 100 miles:
Martha Smutzer
Taber Swanson
Hayden-McCleary Larson (1st place)
Chloe Finch
Olivia Brown

HS LTC Choir Festival was held tonight at Abingdon High School.

Congratulations to the HS Cross Country girls for getting 5th overall at Sectionals. They are now STATE BOUND on Saturday! Emily Downing took 1st place and Jana Vande Kemp took 4th out of almost 150 runners. Jana, Avery, Ella, and Emma all ran at least 25 seconds faster than they did on the same course last week! This is the first XC team to advance to the State meet. The IHSA State Meet will be held at Detweiller Park in Peoria. Great job ladies!

We are very excited to continue our positive pride program, *Viking of the Week! This program is spearheaded by our support staff and specials teachers. They interact and see students in other scenarios outside of the classroom. Our staff decided they would like to have a positive program of their own to allow the quiet heroes of our school to “shine!” They will collect names all week of students who they think deserve special recognition for being positive role models. On the last day of that week, out of the names collected, 2 students in K-2 and 3-5 will be randomly chosen to be the “Viking of the Week.”
How do you become the Viking of the Week? The following are the guidelines for being chosen:
*Be a Leader, by demonstrating Leadership qualities.
*Be a Self Directed Learner.
*Being a Hard Worker.
*Being a Good Friend.
*Being a Problem Solver.
*Having great School Spirit.
*Being a Role Model.
*Having a positive attitude.
*Being respectful to staff and fellow students.
*Having Integrity.
*Going above and beyond.
*Being in control of their emotions. Good and Bad.
*A noticeable change in behavior for the better.
